This song has always broken my heart ever since childhood when my mom used to play it. Knowing how Ochs ended his life makes it even more heart wrenching.
Yes, a heart-wrenching song. As I understand it, Phil Ochs suffered from debilitating mental illness during the years before he took his own life. Some mental illnesses are fatal. I find it tragic that this songwriting genius was cut down so young. I'm grateful his music outlived him.
Nice! Never heard the song before (which is somewhat embarrassing given we grew up together. Always concerned whether I am doing enough "while I'm here."
I'll know how 70 feels in October! But so far, so good - so grateful to be healthy and strong-- I hope you are also well - it's so good to hear from you, we've known one another for such a very long time. Thanks for the kind words, and all my best!
Beautiful singing and timing! I loved that song in my youth from Phil
Ochs - I took courage and calm from it then, and it brings the same needed peaceful energy and love and resolve now. Thank you!
You are most welcome!

Yes. Bipolar Disorder in addition to severe alcoholism and drug abuse. A tragic end to a brilliant, supreme talent.
As alway, Grateful for You.

Thanks! -and actually, I didn't learn this song until well into adulthood, even though I knew a few of his other songs. His body of work is amazing.
I love this song and I think your voice sounds better than ever.
Thank you, Harriet!
A favorite of mine. And should inspire all of us to keep pushing back against what is happening in our country. Thanks.
Thank you, Alice!
I'm familiar with this song but it's sung so beautifully by you,Rabbi Jonathan.

Pete Seeger had one similar with the refrain When I’m Far away. Both apt.
Thank you rabbi jonathan! Let’s hit the streets while we’re here!!
